How we work

At First in Service, our specialist teams work together to provide complete facilities support across gas and plumbing, commercial catering, air conditioning and refrigeration, mechanical ventilation and extraction, facilities management, and commercial cleaning. Each customer is supported by a dedicated contact to ensure clear communication and consistent reporting. Our 24/7 helpdesk operates year-round, coordinating both emergency callouts and planned maintenance to keep sites compliant and systems running efficiently, while maintaining the personal service our customers value.

Our story

1966

Founded as Fisher Shopfitters by Don Fisher, specialising in bespoke shopfitting for retail businesses.

1976

Fisher Group Services Ltd formed to support existing retail customers with mechanical service and maintenance, including computer room air conditioning installations.
Built a growing client base including major industrial, retail, and commercial organisations across the UK.

1981

Mechanical services brought fully in-house.

1984

Rebranded as First in Service Ltd, becoming an independent operation and relocating to Windsor Industrial Estate, Birmingham.
Expanded into air conditioning commissioning, catering equipment installation and servicing, particularly supporting the growing McDonald’s estate through national rollout programmes.

1994

Rebranded as First in Service Ltd, becoming an independent operation and relocating to Windsor Industrial Estate, Birmingham.
Expanded into air conditioning commissioning, catering equipment installation and servicing, particularly supporting the growing McDonald’s estate through national rollout programmes.

1998

Secured major contract with Whitbread PLC, supporting brands including Café Rouge, Bella Italia, TGI Fridays, and Marriott Hotels.
Expanded services to Costa Coffee and other national hospitality and retail clients including JD Wetherspoon, Dixons, and Thomsom Holidays.

2000s

National Expansion
Established nationwide coverage, supporting multi-site clients across hospitality, healthcare, education, and public sector estates, while retaining specialist data centre cooling expertise.

2010s

Integrated Facilities Services
Introduced structured Facilities Management delivery, providing single-supplier solutions across compliance, maintenance, and refurbishments.
Appointed principal FM contractor for Sungard data centres and disaster recovery facilities across the UK.

2020s

One Simple Solution
Branding updated to reflect a fully integrated service model across engineering, facilities management, and commercial cleaning.
Continued nationwide growth with increased investment in people, technology, sustainability, and compliance.
